Washington Draft Pick Ivan Miroshnichenko Has Beaten Cancer, and Now Vies for a Spot in the Caps’ Lineup

Hello, I wanted to follow up with the status of Ivan Miroshnichenko, Washington’s first-round pick (20th overall) in the 2022 draft. Originally projected as a top 10 pick, Miroshnichenko’s draft stock understandably slipped a bit when diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in March of his draft year. Having regained the weight he lost during treatment and actually adding to his frame (6’1″, 185 lbs.), Miroshnichenko recently attended the Capitals’ development camp. Armed with a wicked right-handed snap shot, he stands a reasonable chance to make the big club, and if not will continue his playing career with the Hershey Bears of the AHL. His KHL club agreed to terminate his contract in May of this year to allow him to pursue his NHL dreams.

With what he’s already endured in his young life, I cannot help rooting for him in his endeavors, so best wishes to him.
