Recently I posted about an antitrust case filed against the CHL and NHL. As stated in that post, the court dismissed the CHL from the suit for lack of jurisdiction. The lawsuit I am discussing now, also filed in New York federal court, was brought by Ontario native Ryan Masterson against the NCAA. The suit claims that the prior exclusion of CHL players violated antitrust laws (in Masterson’s case, his ban was due to competing for the Windsor Spitfires in several exhibition games). A portion of this case has since been resolved due to the NCAA’s lifting of this ban. However, Masterson still seeks damages for the denial of a scholarship, as well as the unlimited compensation from NIL (name, image, and likeness) contracts permitted by the NCAA.
The first attachment is the article discussing this ongoing case. The second attachment is of my prior post.
