Attached is a ranking of the top 25 players competing at this year’s world junior championship. Many familiar names appear on this list, but for me it is the names not represented here which got my attention. Those names are Canadian Michael Misa (2025 DE, A-rated prospect) and American Quentin Musty (SJS 1st Rd 26th overall in 2023). Apparently, Toni Ferrari feels the same way. Attached is his article in The Hockey News providing further detail on these player snubs, as well as others concerning their upcoming European opponents.
While not inviting Misa to Canada’s evaluation camp is difficult to fathom, Musty’s injury can at least partially explain his absence from the US roster. Similar to Musty, a knee injury contributed to Swede Anton Frondell’s absence from this year’s tournament. When first seeing him at last week’s World Junior A Challenge, I felt Sweden may have been mistaken in leaving Frondell, a projected first-rounder in the 2025 draft, off its roster. However, as he didn’t dominate the competition the way I expected a potential top-10 pick should (four points in five games, and no points in a high-scoring gold medal game against Team USA), it appears that his up and down season continues.
