The QMJHL’s Linards Feldbergs put on a goaltending display last night, turning away 55 of 57 Team Canada shots and pitching a shutout in the post-OT shootout en route to a 3-2 Latvian victory. Clearly the best player on the ice in this game, Feldsberg brought his success with Sherbrooke this season (11-4-2, 2.51 GAA, .899 SV%) to the WJC stage. Latvia has the opportunity to slay another tournament favorite today when they face off with Team USA at 3:30.
Team Canada lost both the game and defenseman & potential first overall draft pick Matthew Schaefer, who suffered a broken collar bone and will miss the rest of the WJC and the next 2-3 months.
