Attached are the final rosters for both the OHL & All-American prospect games, occurring January 15th & 16th, respectively.
With respect to the OHL Top Prospects Game, there are two story lines in which I am particularly interested. First, the matchup between Porter Martone (Eastern Conference) and Michael Misa (Western Conference) is very intriguing, and definitely has the potential to affect the draft’s top candidates. Adding to this intrigue would have been Erie D-man Matthew Schaefer, who is not playing due to injury. As the attachment indicates, taking his roster spot is Guelph D-man Daniil Skvortsov, a 1st round pick of Guelph in the 2024 import draft (C-rated, indicating 4th or 5th rounder, by NHL central scouting).
Second is the prospective performance of Saginaw’s Kristian Epperson. Passed over in last year’s draft due to what scouts felt was lack of an NHL shot, Epperson has 51 points in the OHL this year. He is projected to finish the season with 31 goals and 92 points. Like Skvortsov, Epperson is a C-rated prospect, but we’ll have to see where he lands in central scouting’s winter rankings.
Forward Ben Kevan has my attention with respect to the All-American Prospects Game. Kevan had an excellent showing at the World Junior A Challenge in November (8 points in 5 games on 6G & 2A), and is listed among FC Hockey’s biggest risers in its winter rankings. Given a B rating by central scouting, he may work his way into the first round when everything is said and done.
