FYI attached is a list of the most valuable sports franchises world-wide. The most valuable NHL franchise is the Toronto Maple Leafs’ organization, coming in at number 70 on this list at $3.66 billion.
It is amazing how valuations of sports teams have exploded recently. Late last year, the Tampa Bay Lightning franchise was valued at $1.8 billion. This valuation was made pursuant to a sale of a majority stake in the club by Jeff Vinik. Vinik bought the Lightning in 2010 for $170 million. Not a bad return on that investment.
