This is a follow-up to two of my recent posts. The first concerns current Winnipeg Jet Mark Scheifele joining the ownership group of the Penticton Vees, who are migrating to the WHL next season from the BCHL. Attached is an article detailing this development. I noted in particular that the Fraser family, majority owner of the Vees, was Scheifele’s billet family when he played for Barrie in the OHL. That sums up what to me is one of the greatest things about hockey, being the unbreakable bond established many times between players and their billets.
Second, I posted about the explosion of professional sports franchise valuations, and the motivation to invest in sports teams that have accompanied it. To that end, I ran across a recent article citing billionaire Dan Friedkin as the front-runner to own a prospective NHL expansion franchise in Houston, TX.
