As many of you may already know, Detroit forward prospect Emmitt Finnie (DET 7th round, 201st overall in 2023) has been added to the Grand Rapids Griffins roster for the remainder of the season. Finnie’s addition came immediately following the conclusion of his season with the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL, a team he captained this year. Thus far, Finnie has appeared in two games for the Griffins, and has been held off the score sheet.
In addition to his captaincy, Finnie produced an outstanding offensive season. He tallied 84 points in 55 games on 37 goals and 47 assists, while serving as a mentor to 2025 draft prospect Tommy Lafreniere (86th-ranked North American skater per NHL’s central scouting bureau). Finnie is someone Lafreniere looks up to for his leadership and work ethic, referring to him as an “exceptional player.” Finnie also has the versatility teams covet, playing both wing and center.
Hopefully, tracking his professional progress will be watching a productive NHL career unfold.
