Attached is Craig Button’s mock draft, focusing on the first 16 players projected to be taken in this summer’s selection process. I note in particular three things. First is the rise of Canadian forward Brady Martin (ranked 20th by Button previously, now projected at #6), presumably due in large part to his stellar performance at the recent U18 WJC (11 points on 3G & 8A, named tourney all-star). Second is the fall of Swedish center Anton Frondell to 8th from his previous #4 ranking, possibly also due to his U18 WJC performance (3 points in 5 games on just 1 goal, shut out in gold medal game). Finally is Button’s projection of Swedish winger Victor Eklund going to Detroit at #13. Full disclosure, as I’ve always been a hardcore Wings fan this is a totally selfish observation. I was nonetheless disappointed not to get to see him live in Texas (he is a 2006 birth year and has aged out of that tournament) in my attendance there.
