5/29/25: Utah Mammoth Sign Two Russian First-Round Picks to Entry Level Contracts

Utah has signed left-shot D-man Dmitri Simashev (ARI/UTAH 2023 1st round, 6th overall) and right-shot winger Daniil But (ARI/UTAH 2023 1st round, 12th overall) to a pair of entry-level contracts, set to commence in 2025-26. Both players may very well make Utah’s opening night roster this coming season, and were teammates for the past three seasons with the KHL’s Lokomotiv Yaroslavl.

The nickname “Mammoth” is appropriate for these two giants: Simashev is 6’5″ 203 lbs., while But stands 6’6″ and weighs in at 216 lbs. Per NHL central scouting, both men are top 5 prospects for the Mammoth (Simashev is listed at #1, But at #4).
