The primary attributes of US forward Jack Murtagh (30th ranked prospect among NA skaters per central scouting) are his high motor and the physical play he brings with it. The attached article highlights what I witnessed when viewing Murtagh this season, in particular the CHL/USA Prospects Challenge in November. In viewing those games, I felt Murtagh was one of the few Americans who could match the pace and physicality brought by a group of extremely talented CHL draft prospects this season. This resulted in two Murtagh goals, along with his generating numerous other chances, in the two games played in the Challenge. He is definitely a player who fits in nicely with a discussion of how his skill set positively translates to an NHL playoff atmosphere. The second attachment details that twist upon the draft evaluation process, which I posted about recently.
Murtagh will attend Boston University this fall.
