6/18/25: Recent NHL Prospect News Concerning Detroit (Postava/Sandin Pellikka/Guimond) & Boston (Soderstrom)

There have been several points of discussion regarding Red Wings prospects recently, particularly on the defensive side of the puck. Detroit has signed 23 year old Czech goaltender Michal Postava (undrafted free agent) to a two year entry level contract. Postava posted a regular season record of 23-18-0 with a .921 save percentage in 42 games last season for HC Komet Brno in the Czechia Extraliga, Czechia’s highest pro league. Also, in this past season’s playoffs Postiva had a save percentage of .940 to go with a 10-7 record in leading his club to an Extraliga championship. This follows up a 2023-24 campaign in which Postiva was named Best Goaltender in Czechia’s second-tier pro league. He will begin the 2025-26 season in Grand Rapids.

Sticking with goaltenders, Detroit prospect Rudy Guimond (DET 2023 6th round, 169th overall) of QMJHL champ Moncton will remain with the junior club. The Quebec native posted a record of 16-0 in 2024-25, with a save percentage of .940. Guimond, who originally committed to attend Yale University in 2025-26, set a CHL record this season by posting 24 consecutive wins to begin his major junior career.

Also for Detroit, 20 year old Swedish D-man Axel Sandin Pellikka (DET 2023 1st round, 17th overall) has been named the Young Player of the Year by the Alliance of European Hockey Clubs. This is the second consecutive year Sandin Pellikka has won the award. Although he competed for Grand Rapids in the 2024-25 playoffs, he will return to Sweden this season to continue his development.

Last but not least are the Boston Bruins, who have signed former 1st round pick Victor Soderstrom (ARZ 2019 1st round, 11th overall) to a one-year contract with a cap hit of $775,000. Boston acquired Soderstrom in a trade with Chicago, in which the Bruins sent a 2025 7th-round pick to the Hawks. Soderstrom, who has appeared in 53 NHL games in his career, is slated to begin the 2025-26 season competing for Brynas of the Swedish Hockey League.
