Attached is the schedule for the U17 World Hockey Challenge, commencing today in Truro, Nova Scotia at 3:30 pm Atlantic Standard Time (one hour later than EST). All six teams in this tournament (Canada Red, Canada White, the United States, Sweden, Finland & Czechia) competed in three pre-tournament games this past Halloween Friday. Canada Red, Finland & the United States each recorded victories in those contests.
Canada White looks to repeat as champions of this tournament. It took home the gold medal at last year’s event in Sarnia, Ontario following a spirited 3-1 final versus Canada Red. In addition to Canada Red earning the silver medal, Team Sweden won bronze by defeating the United States in an overtime victory in the third-place game.
The U17 World Hockey Challenge offers an excellent opportunity for 2027 draft prospects (or beyond) to be previewed by NHL scouts. Started in 1986, this tournament has seen over 500 NHL draft picks compete for its accolades, including 23 first-round picks in 2025. Also, projected 2026 first-round picks Keaton Vefhoeff (right-shot D-man at University of North Dakota), Mathis Preston (right winger at Spokane Chiefs of the WHL) & Marcus Nordmark (Djurgarden Jr.) were named to the all-star team at the 2024 event.
