Attached is a link to the November Mock Draft as published by TSN Scouting Director Craig Button. The first three players taken remain the same from TSN’s October rankings, being forward Gavin McKenna, forward Ivar Stenberg, and d-man Keaton Verhoeff. However, Stenberg has hopscotched Verhoeff to claim the second position.
The thing that really resonated with me is the number of elite d-men near the top of the rankings. With Verhoeff leading the way, picks 3 through 6 are all d-men, being Tappara’s Juho Piiparinen, Sault Ste. Marie’s Chase Reid and Prince George’s Carson Carels. Reid & Carels each will have the opportunity to display their talents tonight and tomorrow at the CHL USA Prospects Challenge. Likewise, d-men Daxon Rudolph (13), Ryan Lin (14) and Xavier Villeneuve (15) also will represent the CHL in this two-game set.
In particular, I am very interested in watching Reid and Carels play tonight. Although many high-end players will be on display, each of these d-men has averaged over a point-per-game so far this season, and their exceptional two-way play has vaulted them into top ten consideration.
