1/8/2026: Recent Trades in Ontario Hockey League Highlight Movement of Top NHL Prospects

Many recent trades among OHL clubs have involved highly-touted NHL prospects, including Owen Sound sending goaltender Carter George (LAK 2024 2nd round, 57th overall) to Sault Ste. Marie. The Attack received seven draft picks in exchange for George (a 2026 3rd-rounder, as well as two in each of the 2027-29 drafts).

January 7 also saw London move forward Sam O’Reilly (EDM 2024 1st round, 32nd overall) and d-man Jared Woolley (LAK 2024 6th round, 164th overall) to Kitchener in exchange for 2026 draft-eligible d-man Jacob Xu and 10 draft picks. O’Reilly was George’s teammate for 2026 WJC bronze-medalist Team Canada, and was named one of Canada’s top three players in the tournament after recording four goals and four assists in Minnesota. It should be noted that O’Reilly now is a Tampa Bay prospect, as Edmonton traded his rights to the Lighting in exchange for Oilers forward Isaac Howard.

Last but not least, Kingston sent forward Jacob Battaglia (CGY 2024 draft 2nd round, 62nd overall) to Flint on January 5. In exchange for Battaglia, Kingston has received eight draft picks, including a 2026 3rd rounder. Battaglia experienced a breakout season in 2024-25, in which he recorded 90 points (40G 50A) for the Frontenacs.

Numerous other recent trades have taken place in the OHL, as the league’s trade deadline is January 9. A complete list of these transactions can be viewed by clicking on the link below.
