Connor McDavid will not return immediately to his 20+ minutes per night role in Edmonton. Although the Oilers will begin their post-Olympic schedule on Wednesday versus Anaheim to start a southern California road trip, their captain will not be in attendance. In fact, McDavid may not be in the lineup this week. Given his all-out effort and superstar performance in Milan over the last 12 days, he deserves the rest.
For his efforts, McDavid was named the tournament’s MVP, as well as its best forward. He also was on the tournament’s all-star team, along with fellow Canadians Cale Makar and Macklin Celebrini. Rounding out the all-star team were Team USA’s Quinn Hughes and Conor Helebuyck (who also was named the tournament’s best goaltender), as well as Slovakia’s Juraj Slafkovsky.
