The Intrigue of the 2023 NHL Draft Continues With These 11th Hour Rankings

Attached are updated mock drafts from Smaht Scouting and the NHL (both Adam Kimelman and Mike Morreale). What I like about Smaht Scouting’s model is the manner in which it assigned multiple teams to each of its scouts as that team’s “general manager,” and the reasoning behind each of their picks. With respect to each mock draft I’ve reviewed in anticipation of the real thing, what has struck me is the disparate treatment received by Europeans Dalibor Dvorsky and Eduard Sale. Nothing has changed in these most recent editions. In the NHL’s mock draft, Dvorsky was the 6th pick by Morreale and number 10 by Kimelman; he didn’t come in until 21 on Smaht Scouting’s list. For Sale, Kimelman has him going to Detroit at 17 and Morreale has at 25 to St. Louis; he is Smaht Scouting’s number 23 pick (NY Rangers). I have seen Sale rated anywhere from top 7 to early 2nd rounder. It will be very interesting to see what the future holds for these two young men after Nashville.
