It was fairly big news when St. Louis lured away F Dylan Holloway and D Philip Broberg from Edmonton by way of offer sheets last month. With Holloway’s departure, perhaps this opens the door for a roster spot for Matthew Savoie (ranked as the Oilers’ #1 prospect by central scouting). Savoie has still been labeled a dark horse to make Edmonton’s opening night roster this season.
A St. Louis prospect sharing that dark horse label with Savoie is Dalibor Dvorsky (another prospect ranked #1 by central scouting). Perhaps Holloway’s changing of clubs will serve to speed up one prospect’s journey, and delay another one. That remains to be seen, although I it will be tough for the Blues to keep Dvorsky out of their lineup for long, if at all. The 19-year old averaged nearly two points per game with Sudbury in the OHL last season (45G, 43A in 52 games).
Finally, the very unfortunate season-ending injury to Torey Krug may pave the way for a much larger role for Philip Broberg with the Blues (no longer listed by central scouting as a prospect, as he has spent parts of the past three seasons in Edmonton). Broberg has yet to turn his potential into results on a consistent basis, but his role as a key contributor to the Oilers’ Cup finals run last season may have signaled that he has arrived.
