Team Sweden After Day 1 at the 2024 World Junior A Challenge

Swedish center Anton Frondell certainly stood out on Day 1 of this tournament in Camrose, Alberta. Frondell had three points (2 goals, 1 assist) in a 10-2 win over Canada West. He is listed as an A-rated prospect for the 2025 draft, and TSN’s Craig Button has him going fifth overall. However, due in large part to an injury-riddled start to the season, Frondell did not make Sweden’s World Junior roster. His performance served as a statement that this may have been a mistake, as he was a menace both on the penalty kill and power play (one of his goals was short-handed, and the other came when Sweden was up a man).

His teammate and 2026 draft-eligible forward Ivar Stenberg was very impressive as well. Stenberg, who Button has at tenth overall in 2026, tallied four points (3 goals, 1 assist) yesterday. Stenberg is an absolute terror on the forecheck, and possesses the energy and skating ability that translates to success up and down the lineup. His older brother, Otto, is a 2023 St. Louis pick (25th overall), and will compete for Sweden in Ottawa in a few weeks.
