Listed below are the top NHL prospects to watch at this year’s national championship tournament. Many familiar names occupy this list, perhaps most notably BC forwards & WJC gold medalists Gabe Perreault (NY Rangers) and Ryan Leonard (Washington). Fellow goaltenders Jacob Fowler of BC (Montreal) & Trey Augustine of Michigan State (Detroit) likewise appear on this list.
Quite surprisingly, neither Fowler nor Augustine is a top 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award this season, despite being the keys to the success of their respective teams. Fowler boasts a .940 save percentage, and has 24 of BC’s 26 wins for the top-ranked Eagles. Having watched Augustine (19-6-4, .927 save percentage) live on numerous occasions, 2nd-ranked MSU goes as he goes, most often in the win column.
