Boston: It will be very convenient for the Bruins to track the development of its two newest prospect pool members, centers James Hagens (2025 1st round, 7th overall) and William Moore (2025 2nd round, 51st overall). Both Hagens & Moore are expected to compete for the Boston College Eagles this season, right in the Bruins’ backyard. Hagens (11G 26 A in 37 games last season) will be a sophomore, while Moore will join him as a freshman from the USNTDP (59 points [27G 32A] in 64 games last season).
Carolina: The Canes signed 24 year old forward Ryan Suzuki (CAR 2019 draft, 1st round, 28th overall) & 23 year old D-man Ronan Seeley (CAR 2020 draft, 7th round, 208th overall) to a pair of one-year contracts. The contract of Suzuki, who appeared in two NHL games last season, has a cap hit of $775,000, while Seeley’s contract is at $813,750. Both players are expected to begin the season with Chicago in the AHL.
Dallas: The Stars traded D-man Matt Dumba & a 2028 draft pick to Pittsburgh in exchange for D-man Vladislav Kolyachonok (FLA 2019 draft, 2nd round, 52nd overall). Dallas’ then signed Kolyachonok to a one-year contract with a cap hit of $775,000. Kolyachonok has appeared in 62 NHL games with Arizona/Utah & Pittsburgh, and is expected to be on Dallas’ opening night roster.
New York Islanders: Islanders forward prospect Daniil Prokhorov (NYI 2025 draft 2nd round, 42nd overall) has signed a tryout contract with the KHL’s Dynamo Moscow. Provided Prokhorov makes the Dynamo squad, it would offer him an excellent opportunity to continue his development in Russia’s top pro league.
Also, D-man & Islanders 2025 draftee Kashawn Aitcheson (1st round, 17th overall) will return to his OHL club, the Barrie Colts. Aitcheson is unsigned at this point, and must remain so if he chooses to go the college route at some point in the future. This may however be a moot point, as there is much speculation he will be in line for a roster spot with the Islanders in 2026-27.
Anaheim: Ducks 2025 first round draft pick (10th overall) Roger McQueen will compete for the Providence College Friars in 2025-26. A back injury cost McQueen almost his entire draft season with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL. The effect of the Saskatoon native’s injury was prolonged due to an initial misdiagnosis, which is now completely healed and presumably will allow him to compete with more physically developed college players.
