9/4/25: Recent NHL Prospect News Concerning Chicago Draft Pick Mason West

Blackhawks prospect Mason West (2025 draft, 1st round 29th overall) continues to show what he can do on the football field. The 6’6″ QB threw for four touchdowns last week in Edina High School’s season opener, a resounding 49-21 victory against in-state rival Hopkins. Upon the completion of the football season, West will join the USHL’s Fargo Force for the remainder of this season. He then plans to play hockey at Michigan State University next fall.

The scouting reports on West all highlight the package of his size, skill, and willingness and ability to physically overwhelm his opponents. Also, the quickness of hands and feet that elude many bigger players is a trait making him such a highly-projected prospect. As of yet, he does not appear on anyone’s top 10 rankings. That is likely to change once his football playing days are over and he fully devotes himself to his on-ice skill development.
