9/17/25: Recent NHL Prospect News Concerning Chicago (Greene), Seattle (Josephson), New York Islanders (Nurmi), Detroit (Lombardi) & Minnesota (Benak)

Chicago: Following a successful 3-year stint at Boston University, forward Ryan Greene (2022 draft, 2nd round 57th overall) signed his entry-level deal with the Hawks, and is now eyeing an opening night roster spot. Although Chicago dropped its final prospects match versus Minnesota, Greene managed to score in the contest, and will compete at the Hawks main camp this month. He faces an outside chance for a roster spot at this point, with Chicago enjoying a number of talented young forwards at its disposal.

Seattle: British Columbia native Ollie Josephson (2024 4th round, 105th overall) will compete for the University of North Dakota this season. The defensive-minded forward tallied 35 points (14G 21A) in 48 games as captain of Red Deer of the WHL in 2024-25, and is renowned for his ability to shut down opponents’ rush opportunities.

New York Islanders: Isles’ forward prospect Jesse Nurmi (2024 draft, 4th round 113th overall) will miss the first four to six weeks of the AHL season after undergoing minor knee surgery. Once seen as a project, Nurmi has rocketed up the Isles’ dept chart. In his first North American season in 2024-25, Nurmi had 31 points in 58 games with London in the OHL, and would have attended the Isles’ main camp but for the injury.

Detroit: Wings’ forward prospect Andreus Lombardi (2022 draft, 4th round 113th overall) impressed greatly at this past weekend’s rookie games versus Dallas. Lombardi handled the puck with the poise and patience of a veteran, and hopes to continue that style of play in his attendance at Detroit’s main camp. Despite suffering an upper-body injury limiting him to 44 AHL games last season, Lombardi managed to post career highs in goals (19) & points (40). He used the off-season to add bulk to his frame and focus on developing his 200-foot game in hopes of landing a spot in Detroit this season.

Minnesota: Forward Adam Benak (2025 draft, 4th round 102nd overall) used his elite playmaking skills to generate three assists in a 6-4 loss to St. Louis in rookie competition this past weekend. Also, his dogged work ethic led to what the Wild brass concluded was an excellent performance against many players already in the pro ranks. He will continue to work toward earning a pro contract with Brampton in the OHL this season.
