12/16/25: OHL Goaltender Minchak Impressive in Draft Year

Kingston Frontenacs goaltender Matthew Minchak is on the rise for next summer’s draft. Minchak, in his second year of draft eligibility, was listed as a “W” prospect (6th/7th rounder) by NHL central scouting in its preliminary players to watch list. By all accounts in the scouting world, that will change dramatically in the mid-term rankings. Standing 6’5″ tall, he possesses the size coveted by NHL organizations. That is bolstered by a save percentage of .928, together with a record of 8-7-2 on a sub-.500 team. Minchak faces on average over 30 shots per night, including a 34-save effort, culminating in his first OHL shutout, in his latest start versus Oshawa.

Minchak’s inaugural OHL season also will be his last, as he will relocate to Colgate University for the 2026-27 season.
