By way of their business entity, Dream Sports Ventures LLC, famed college football coach Nick Saban and his business partner Joe Agresti have purchased a minority interest in the Nashville Predators hockey club. Saban has expressed his excitement in the venture due to his ultra-competitive nature, coupled with the opportunity to join a passionate majority ownership group led by Bill Haslam. Saban and Agresti are business partners in several ventures, most notably automobile dealership company Dream Motor Group.
Pittsburgh majority owner Fenway Sports Group has agreed to sell its interest in the Penguins franchise for $1.7 billion. The purchaser is the Chicago-based Hoffman family, which owns the Florida Everblades of the East Coast Hockey League. FSG purchased a majority interest in the team in 2021 from Mario Lemieux for $900 million. Lemieux retained a minority interest in the team at the time, which will continue with this latest sale.
Hockey Canada has hired former Toronto Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan to lead a review of men’s junior hockey in Ontario. This review will focus on the development of skill and character within the province’s junior hockey system, culminating in a report and recommendations made available to the general public.
