The Beanpot Tournament, an annual event to determine Boston area college hockey supremacy, commences tomorrow at TD Garden. The inaugural game begins at 5 p.m. ET, and will feature Boston College and Harvard University. Northeastern University and Boston University square off at 8 p.m. The winners of these games will meet in the February 9 finale. The losers will compete in the consolation game earlier that same day.
Each team boasts a number of NHL draft picks on its roster. However, the majority of NHL prospects of note in this year’s Beanpot play for either Boston University or Boston College. Boston University players include Sacha Boisvert (CHI 2024, 1st round, 18th overall), Sascha Boumedienne (WPG 2025, 1st round, 28th overall), Cole Eiserman (NYI 2024, 1st round, 20th overall), Cole Hutson (WSH 2024, 2nd round, 43rd overall), Tynan Lawrence (2026 Draft-eligible; 7th ranked North American skater), and Mikhail Yegorov (NJD 2024, 2nd round, 49th overall). BC prospects include James Hagens (BOS 2025, 1st round, 7th overall), Oscar Hemming (2026 Draft-eligible; 11th ranked North American skater), Dean Letourneau (BOS 2024, 1st round, 25th overall), and William Moore (BOS 2025, 2nd round, 51st overall).
The spotlight in this year’s tournament will be on draft-eligible players Lawrence of BU and Hemming of BC, both recent additions to their respective squads and projected first-rounders. Lawrence debuted for the Terriers on January 9, and has one goal in eight games thus far. Hemming joined the Eagles on December 28 after a protracted dispute with his club team in Finland, and has four assists in seven games.
