2/14/26: Team Canada Continues Its Winning Ways; Swiss Forward Fiala (LAK) Injured; Team USA Facing Denmark Today; Slovakia Wins Group B

Team Canada improved to 2-0 in Olympic play yesterday with a 5-1 win over Team Switzerland. The lone goal by the Swiss was the first allowed by Team Canada – with NHL’ers competing – since the quarterfinals of the 2014 Olympic games (scored by Latvia).

Switzerland’s Kevin Fiala (LAK) sustained a lower leg injury late in the Canada-Switzerland contest. The injury required Fiala to undergo surgery, and he is likely to miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season with Los Angeles.

In Group C preliminary action, the United States will take on Denmark this afternoon at 3:10 ET. Although losing to Germany by a 3-1 score earlier this week, Denmark outshot the Germans by the fairly wide margin of 38-23. Boston’s Jeremy Swayman will be the starting goaltender for Team USA today.

Although it suffered a 5-3 loss to Sweden early this morning, Slovakia has won Group B by virtue of Finland’s recently completed 11-0 drubbing of Italy. By virtue of winning its group, Slovakia has received a bye into the tournament’s quarterfinals.
