The February 4 trade sending New York Ranger’s star forward Artemi Panarin to Los Angeles for prospect Liam Greentree has benefited both clubs. Since Panarin’s arrival, the Kings have put themselves into wild card position, and their scoring has increased by more than half a goal per game. That can be attributed in large part to the play of Panarin himself, who has 15 points (4G 11A) with his new team.
In Greentree, the Rangers received a 20-year-old power forward who is listed as a top 50 affiliated prospect in TSN’s March 13 rankings (#48). in 2025-26, Greentree has totaled 69 points (36G 33A) in 50 games, during a season shortened by both the aforementioned trade and an extended look by LA in the preseason. Greentree had 119 points (49G 70A) in 64 games last year, good for third in the OHL. With current young Rangers forwards such as Gabe Perreault (who would have been a top 50 prospect but for his presence in New York) and Will Cuylle (32 points on 16G & 16A in 2025-26), Greentree looks to be another bright spot in the Rangers’ near future.
Greentree’s entry-level contract is good through the 2027-28 season. His appearance in a Rangers uniform this spring appears highly unlikely, though he is projected to compete for a roster spot at the start of 2026-27.
