4/2/26: NCAA Announces the Three 2026 Hobey Baker Memorial Award Finalists

This year’s finalists for the Hobey Baker Trophy, given annually to college hockey’s top player, are University of Michigan forward TJ Hughes (Free Agent), Denver University d-man Eric Pohlkamp (SJS), and University of Minnesota-Duluth forward Max Plante (DET). The winner will be announced next Friday. Prior to that, Hughes and the Wolverines will take on Pohlkamp and the Pioneers in the national semifinals next Thursday.

Hughes is second in the nation in scoring with 56 points (21G 35A) in 39 games. The undrafted free agent has drawn plenty of interest from NHL clubs vying for his services, and most likely will don an NHL uniform shortly following the end of UM’s season.

Pohlkamp was a fifth-round pick in 2023, but has quickly risen through the Sharks organization to become a top prospect. Based upon previous reports, he intends to join the professional ranks following Denver’s season, despite having one more year of college eligibility remaining.

Plante had 52 points (25G 27A) in 40 games this season, and led the Bulldogs to a berth in the NCAA Regional Final. Plante’s goals total was tied for second in the nation. He is returning to UMD for his junior season, and will reunite with both of his brothers.
