Boston prospect James Hagens (7th overall in 2025) debuted with the Bruins against Columbus yesterday, registering an assist in the Bruins’ 3-2 victory over the Blue Jackets. Hagens becomes the eighth player from the 2025 draft class to play in the NHL this season, all top 15 picks. That number of players competing in the NHL in the season immediately following their draft year is the most since 2018-19 (9).
That number may continue to grow. Victor Eklund (NYI 2025, 16th overall) has been very impressive in Bridgeport of the AHL, with 9 points (2G 7A) in 7 games. It is rumored that he will make his Isles’ debut on Tuesday versus Carolina, New York’s regular season finale.
