My updates to the Dallas Stars top 10 prospects list are complete, and the link to these rankings can be found below. Two of Dallas’ top prospects from a season ago are massive 6’7″ d-man Lian Bichsel and high-energy faceoff man Justin Hryckowian, each of whom are now full-time NHL players and therefore do not appear here. However, there is not much dropoff with respect to the top several prospects in the Stars’ pool, which bodes well for extending Dallas’ five-year playoff run.
At the very top of this pool resides 20-year-old forward Emil Hemming (29th overall in 2024), who several months ago was listed by TSN’s Craig Button as the NHL’s 32nd-ranked prospect, and averaged nearly a point and a half per game last season for the OHL’s Barrie Colts. Although projected to start the season with Texas in the AHL, look for him to log some time in Dallas this season.
Sticking with high-scoring forwards, joining Hemming at the top of the Stars’ pool is Cameron Schmidt (94th overall in 2025), who registered 100 points for Vancouver and Seattle in the WHL a season ago. Following one more WHL season, Schmidt is projected to don the Stars’ uniform in 2027-28.
With respect to the back-end, Dallas’ top-rated d-man prospect is Tristan Bertucci (61st overall in 2023), who also is projected to arrive in Dallas in 2027-28. Bertucci is lauded for his shutdown ability and transitional skating, and will continue developing those aspects of his game in the AHL this season.
