9/5/26: Canucks Sign Buium to Eight-Year Extension

Yesterday, Vancouver General Manager Ryan Johnson announced the signing of d-man Zeev Buium to an eight-year deal worth $75.04 million ($9.38 million AAV), starting in 2027-28. This contract comes prior to a new rule in the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement limiting the length of extensions to seven years, set to begin on September 15. Buium, acquired in December’s blockbuster trade sending Quinn Hughes to Minnesota, impressed with 26 points (6G 20A) in his rookie season, split between the Wild and Canucks.

Johnson praised Buium as a key young core member with huge upside, securing stability on the blue line as training camp nears. Also, Buium won the Vancouver Canucks’ Pavel Bure Most Exciting Player Award for the 2025–2026 season.
