My ranking of Vancouver’s Prospect Pool is complete, the link to which can be found below. The Canucks’ top prospect is forward Caleb Malhotra (3rd overall in 2026), who in my opinion was far and away the best center available in this year’s draft. He will continue his development this season at Boston University, where he will join forces with fellow pivot and first-round 2026 pick Tynan Lawrence (11th overall to STL). Also playing with offensively gifted d-man Xavier Villeneuve (34th overall in 2026 to CHI) and highly-touted goaltender Mikhail Yegorov (49th overall in 2024 to NJD), Malhotra has chosen an excellent destination to continue his march toward a professional career.
Due in large part to the guidance of General Manager Ryan Johnson and Hockey Ops Co-Presidents Daniel and Henrik Sedin, the Vancouver pipeline has experienced a massive resurgence recently. The past two drafts are primarily responsible for this vast improvement. In 2025, the Canucks added future cornerstone pieces in forward Braeden Cootes (19th overall) and goaltender Aleksei Medvedev (47th overall) to its pipeline, who are projected to arrive with the big club in 2027-28 and 2028-29, respectively. Then in 2026 came Malhotra and coveted two-way forward Adam Novotny (24th overall), each of whom also is slated to wear the Canucks’ sweater within the next two seasons.
To highlight the youth of this pipeline, the “old man” of this top 10 group is 22-year-old d-man Kirill Kudryavtsev (208th overall in 2022), a former 7th round pick who already has five NHL games under his belt over the past two seasons. His junior by just months is forward Jonathan Lekkerimaki (15th overall in 2022), who likewise has appeared in multiple games (37) with Vancouver over the past two seasons. He is projected to be with the big club from the opening night forward this year.
