3/30/26: Recent College Hockey News Concerning McKenna (2026 DE); Castagna (CGY); Stramel (MIN); Hage (MTL)

It is fairly well-known at this point that Phildelphia prospect Porter Martone signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers upon Michigan State’s NCAA Tournament elimination. Also, Top 2026 draft prospect Gavin McKenna‘s hockey season is likely to continue, even after Penn State’s elimination. McKenna reportedly will play for Team Canada at the World Championship in May, before moving on to this summer’s selection process.

The season also may continue for Jonathan Castagna (CGY), notwithstanding his Cornell squad’s first-round tournament elimination by Denver. Most analysts anticipate that Calgary will offer him a contract to begin his pro career.

Minnesota prospect Charlie Stramel suffered a broken ankle blocking a shot early on in Michigan State’s loss to Wisconsin. As he is a senior, the Wild must sign the Spartan alum to a contract by August 15 to retain his rights. Sticking with the state of Michigan, UM’s Michael Hage (MTL) missed the Wolverines’ first NCAA tournament game with a nagging injury sustained in the Big 10 conference championship game. Hage recovered enough to play a limited role versus Minnesota-Duluth last night, and is expected to play his regular minutes versus Denver in Las Vegas.
