Yesterday Ottawa signed 2025 4th rounder (97th overall) Lucas Beckman to a three-year, entry-level contract commencing in 2026-27. Details concerning the contract’s cap hit are not disclosed as of yet. Beckman’s signing comes as no surprise, as he has put on nothing short of a dominant show in the QMJHL playoffs thus far. He has a miniscule 0.75 goals against average for Chicoutimi, to go along with an undefeated record of 8-0-0 and .962 save percentage. He leads the league in all three categories, and his two shutouts are good for second.
The Sangueneens are set to face the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the semifinals. The winner of that series will face either Moncton or Blainville-Boisbriand for the Gilles-Courteau trophy.
As I stated previously, the possible Chicoutimi/Moncton clash in the finals would feature an elite goaltending duel between Beckman and Moncton’s Rudy Guimond (DET). Attached is a link to that April 19 article.
