New York Islanders d-man prospect Kashawn Aitcheson‘s 5 playoff goals are the most in Barrie Colts history. Aitcheson’s most recent tally, a power play goal helping Barrie to a 5-3 Eastern Conference Finals victory over Brantford, places him ahead of Barrie alum and Florida Panthers d-man Aaron Ekblad for most all-time. This is no small feat, as Ekblad is the first Panthers’ d-man (and 12th Panther ever) to record 100 career goals for Florida (Ekblad has 122 NHL goals). This follows up a regular season in which Aitcheson set the franchise record for most goals by a Colts’ d-man (28), and his 70 points led all OHL d-men.
In the Western Conference of the OHL playoffs, LA Kings d-man prospect Jared Woolley also is making major contributions to Kitchener’s playoff success. Most celebrated for his overwhelming physical presence, he scored the series-clinching goal in game 5 of the Rangers’ first-round matchup with Sault Ste. Marie. Wooley has managed 5 points (1G 4A) in 10 playoff games thus far, and occupies a spot on the Rangers’ top pair, which is tasked with shutting down the opponent’s top 6 on a nightly basis. Kitchener is 9-1 in the playoffs thanks to this winning formula.
Both Barrie and Kitchener find themselves in their respective Conference Finals. Barrie & Brantford are tied at a game apiece in the East, while Kitchener leads Windsor 1-0 in the West.
