5/13/26: Wetsch (SJS) Signs Entry-Level Deal, Will Play in CHL’s Memorial Cup

San Jose forward prospect Carson Wetsch (82nd overall in 2024) signed a 3-year, entry-level contract with the Sharks today. His deal begins in 2026-27, and carries with it an annual cap hit of $997,500. Also, Wetsch will receive an annual $97,500 signing bonus. Finally, Wetsch will receive a $27,500 performance bonus should he appear in all 82 NHL games in 2026-27 (applies to Year 1 only).

As captain of the Kelowna Rockets, Wetsch registered 72 points (22G 50A) in 65 WHL regular season games. His points total increased every year of his major career, beginning with his rookie campaign in 2022-23 where he managed 21 points for Calgary.

Wetsch tacked on an additional 4 points (2G 2A) in 8 playoff games for the Rockets this season. This was a bit of a surprise, as initial team reports stated his season was over after sustaining an injury in a nasty collision at the end of the regular season.

Despite losing to Everett in round 2 of the WHL playoffs, the Rockets will get a second bite at the championship apple by virtue of hosting the CHL’s Memorial Cup tournament later this month. Wetsch has received a clean bill of health to participate in this tournament as well.
