Forward Mark Schiefele (WPG) led Canada to a 6-5 overtime victory over Norway in preliminary round action today. Schiefele recorded a hat trick, his third goal being the OT winner just 29 seconds into the extra session. Canada remains unbeaten in Group B, while Schiefele now has 4 tournament points (3G 1A).
Also, Finland manhandled Latvia 7-1 despite surrendering a goal to Latvian forward Rudolfs Balcers (formerly of TBL) 10 seconds into the contest. The win keeps Finland undefeated and tied for first place with host Switzerland in Group A. The game was the first for Mikael Granlund (ANA), who was added to Finland’s roster following the completion of the Ducks’ season.
Speaking of Switzerland, forward Kevin Fiala (LAK) read the starting lineup prior to their 4-1 victory over Great Britain earlier today. Fiala has been rehabbing a grotesque surgically-repaired leg injury suffered in the 2026 Olympics, and all signs point to a full recovery. He began skating in mid-April, and is expected to resume his spot on the Kings’ top line at the start of 2026-27.
