Yesterday, St. Louis re-signed forward Oskar Sundqvist to a one-year, $850,000 contract for the 2026-27 season. The news of his signing is not earth-shattering, as the Swede is a depth piece to the Blues’ plans up front. However, as unpleasant as the story behind it was for Sunqvist, his deal represents a happy ending to a potentially career-ending inury.
In May’s 2026 World Championship, Sundqvist suffered a severe knee-on-knee collision following a hit from Switzerland’s Timo Meier (Meijer received a one-game suspension for this illegal hit). Given his extensive career history with major knee injuries, that collision raised significant concern regarding his recovery timeline and availability as a pending unrestricted free agent. That concerned was heightened when he was reportedly seen utilizing a wheelchair following the contest.
These concerns hopefully have been put to bed for good, as Sundqvist will be back for the Blues next season, looking to rebound from an injury-plagued 2025-26 season.
