7/12/26: Hagens (BOS) Plays for Five Teams in 2025-26 En Route to Bruins’ Roster Spot

Top Boston prospect James Hagens had an extremely busy season in 2025-26. He started the year in the NCAA, finishing a stellar two-year career at Boston College with a 47-point season (23G 24A). During his sophomore year at BC, he also competed for Team USA at the 2026 World Junior Championship, where he amassed 7 points (2G 5A) for the Americans.

Upon the conclusion of the Eagles’ season, Hagens then embarked on his professional career. First, he signed an amateur tryout agreement with Providence of the AHL, and registered 4 points (1G 3A) in 6 games for Boston’s top minor-league affiliate. He then signed an entry-level contract with the Bruins, appearing in a total of five games (2 regular season, 3 playoff) as a third-line winger on Boston’s “kid line” (alongside fellow rookies Fraser Minten and Marat Khusnutdinov). Hagens is projected to earn a roster spot as a winger with Boston out of training camp this season, and to move to the pivot position at some point in the future.

Boston’s elimination was not the end of Hagens season. He thereafter joined Team USA once again, but this time for the World Championship in Switzerland. He logged roughly 14:30 of ice time per night at both the wing and center positions, experience which certainly will serve him well as he continues on his pro hockey journey.
