My top-10 prospect ranking of Carolina’s pool is complete, the link to which can be found below. At the top of the Canes’ pool are prospects ready to make an immediate impact at the NHL level, bolstering Carolina’s efforts to defend last season’s Stanley Cup Championship.
Forwards Bradly Nadeau (30th overall in 2023) and Felix Unger Sorum (62nd overall in 2023) lead the way in this regard. They each are coming off point-per-game performances at the AHL level, and projected to be with the Canes for the entire season. To add to their likely presence, and to Carolina’s already strong forward group, is University of Michigan senior Jayden Perron. If a repeat of his excellent 2025-26 season occurs (41 points in 40 games), Perron is a very good candidate to make a cameo in Carolina in the spring, and perhaps to be a playoff contributor as well.
The back-end also features NHL-ready prospects in Charles-Alexis Legault and Joel Nystrom. Like Nadeau and Unger Sorom, both players spent time with the big club last season, and are projected to grace the Canes’ lineup all season long. Legault is a large (6’4″ 220 pounds) and mobile shut-down defenseman, while Nystrom thrives on the offensive side of the puck.
Carolina’s blue-line also may open up further to allow for additional d-men to log some minutes with the big club, namely 20-year-old prospect Dominik Badinka (54th overall in 2024), should the Canes part ways with free agent Alexander Nikishin. Negotiations on a new contract for Nikishin, who is said to be seeking a long-term, $8 million + AAV deal, have reached a standstill, and several teams have expressed an interest in his acquisition.
