Below is the link to my fully updated list of top 10 prospects for the Ottawa Senators. The undisputed top prospect in this pool is d-man Carter Yakemchuk, who is projected to be with Ottawa right out of training camp following an impressive four-game stretch with the big club a season ago.
After Yakemchuk, uncertainty is prevalent in the Sens’ top prospects. The first unknown is whether #2 prospect, University of Wisconsin d-man Logan Hensler, has fully recovered from an awful leg injury he suffered in a game against the University of Minnesota this past spring, which required surgery to repair a torn ACL. The promising news is that Hensler has been skating since July, and is slated to begin the 2026-27 season on time in Madison.
Like Hensler, the injury bug also hit #5 prospect and 2026 first-round pick (25th overall) Jonas Lagerberg Hoen last season. Lagerberg Hoen went down with a torn ACL last October, costing him the majority of his draft year and keeping him off the ice since that time. Nonetheless, the Sens made him their first selection based upon the winger’s pre-injury performance, and are banking on a complete recovery.
Having said all that, there are many positives in Ottawa’s top tier of prospects as well. After a 25-goal season in Belleville last year and a brief NHL stint, forward Xavier Bourgault (22nd overall in 2021 by EDM) is poised to break into the Ottawa lineup on a full-time basis this year. Also eyeing a full-time spot this season is d-man Jorian Donovan after two very good years in Belleville by the exceptionally mobile blueliner, which led to a two-game stretch in Ottawa last year.
