3/24/26: New York Rangers & Vegas Score Late-Round Gems in Aspinall and Weiermaier; Frondell & Boisvert Close to Appearing for Chicago

Chosen by the Rangers in the fifth round of the 2025 draft (159th overall), massive winger Nathan Aspinall of Flint in the OHL has taken large strides to assist New York in its rebuild. The 6’7″ 207 pound Aspinall has 94 points (33G 61A) in 65 games this season, and was rewarded by the Rangers for his stellar play in late October with a a 3-year, entry-level contract commencing this season. The 20-year-old is projected to begin the 2026-27 season in Bridgeport (soon-to-be Hamilton) of the AHL.

Center Alex Weiermair (2025 6th round, 168th overall) also appears to be a big part of the future in Vegas. Posting very similar numbers to those of Aspinall, Weiermair has tallied 93 points this season (37G 56A) for Portland in the WHL. Recently he was rewarded with a three-year ELC commencing in 2026-27, and is projected to start next season in Henderson of the AHL.

In Chicago, top prospect Anton Frondell (2025 1st round, 3rd overall) is listed on the Hawks’ official roster, although it is unclear if he will appear in tonight’s game versus the New York Islanders. Also, forward prospect Sacha Boisvert (2024 1st round, 18th overall) reportedly had his work visa approved today, paving the way for his Hawks’ debut later this week. Teammates at Boston University with Washington’s Cole Hutson, Boisvert signed a 3-year ELC on March 16, the day after Hutson signed with the Capitals.
