Blainville-Boisbriand has swept its first-round series versus Victoriaville, Game 3 of which was a 4-3 overtime thriller. Opening the scoring in that game was draft-eligible prospect Xavier Villeneuve (who also had two assists), and finishing it off was Justin Carbonneau (STL), whose game-winner was assisted by Bill Zonnon (PIT).
The Game 3 score sheet was no surprise, as those three players played the most prominent roles for the Armada in that series. Villeneuve’s 6 points (3G 3A) all came from the back end, in addition to playing top-pair minutes often pitting him against top-6 opponents. Carbonneau, who received an extended look by the Blues in the pre-season, is tied for third in the league with 7 playoff points (3G 4A). He is preceded by Bill Zonnon’s second-most 9 points (1G 8A). After a trying regular season which saw a knee injury, then an undisclosed injury afterward, limit Zonnon’s playing time to roughly half a season, he recovered in time to post 46 points (14G 32A) in 35 games. Pittsburgh rewarded Zonnon for his stellar play in March by signing him to an entry-level contract.
