Former Toronto GM Brad Treliving & current Pittsburgh Assistant GM Jason Spezza will lead Team Canada’s management group for the 2026 World Championship. Treliving was also a co-general manager for Team Canada at the 2016 & 2014 World Hockey Championships. Spezza has been the assistant GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins for three seasons. As such, he has a close working relationship with Pittsburgh GM Kyle Dubas, who also will serve on the management team in a supporting role.
The general manager of Team USA’s World Championship Team is Florida assistant GM Brett Peterson. The team will be coached by former Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato.
Also, Hockey Canada has announced the preliminary roster for its 2026 U18 World Championship Team, as well as its coaching staff. For many players, the U18 WJC is their final audition leading up to this summer’s draft, notable exceptions for Canada’s roster being 2027 draft-eligible forwards Alexis Joseph, Jaxon Jacobs, Brock England & Dima Zhilkin. This roster contains the names of 30 players, and includes 20 CHL players and three players competing in the NCAA.
Although Team USA has appointed the coaching staff of the U18 World Junior Championship Team (led by head coach Nick Fohr), it has not released the team’s preliminary roster as of yet.
