The Toronto Maple Leafs fired Head Coach Craig Berube today after two seasons at the helm. Berube has two years and $9 million remaining on his contract. Early reports indicate that Toronto may be interested in Manny Malhotra to fill the vacancy, the current Head Coach of the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks. Malhotra has not been an NHL coach before, although he did serve as an assistant with Toronto from 2020-24.
Berube’s firing comes on the heels of Toronto’s hirings of former Arizona General Manager John Chayka as its GM, as well as retired Hall-of-Fame player Mats Sundin as its Senior Executive Adviser for Hockey Operations.
