5/16/26: QMJHL Battle Continues to Compete for Memorial Cup; WHL Kelowna, WHL Everett & OHL Kitchener Advance

The Kelowna Rockets will compete in the 2026 Memorial Cup by virtue of its status as the host team. Also, the Kitchener Rangers and Everett Silvertips punched their tickets to British Columbia as a result of being crowned OHL and WHL Champions, respectively. Kitchener forward Sam O’Reilly (TBL) was named the OHL Playoff MVP for the 2025-26 season. He was awarded the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award after recording 17 goals and 28 points in 18 games to lead the Rangers to the OHL Championship. Out west, Everett forward Julius Miettinen (SEA) won the WHL Playoff MVP award in leading all skaters with 14 goals, and tying for the overall lead with 27 postseason points.

That leaves one spot remaining, and their occupants will be determined upon the completion of the QMJHL playoffs. Currently, Chicoutimi holds a 3-2 lead over Moncton in the finals, and took that lead by overcoming a four-goal deficit in Game 5 to win 7-6. Chicoutimi D-man Peteris Bulans (Free Agent) was instrumental in that victory, recording a hat trick for the Sangueneens. Game 6 will take place tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Centre Georges-Vézina.
