Today, Utah signed second-leading scorer Nick Schmaltz to an eight-year, $64 million contract extension set to begin next season. Schmaltz would have become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end. He has 59 points (24G 35A) in 65 games this season.
Utah has managed to lock up another core piece of its lineup with this signing. Schmaltz joins Logan Cooley in this trend, who also signed an eight-year extension this season. Along with the addition of d-man MacKenzie Weegar at the trade deadline, who also has five years remaining on his contract, the Mammoth have set themselves up well for deep playoff runs now and in the future.
